1.) I was a little worried about taking an art class online, but it turned out to be a lot better than I expected. I loved that we got opportunities to do so much. Between museum visits, my own artwork, and videos about different artists, and different media, and art through out the years. I expected to learn about the different art media, and elements that it takes to create a piece of artwork. I expected to learn how to interpret different medias and what they truly meant when the artist was creating them. I think a lot of my expectations were met, and I am very happy with the way this online course turned out.
2.) In the beginning of the semester I didn't quite know a lot about art and what it meant. I wasn't too involved in art other than what I've learned throughout the years in high school. I believe art is a great way to express so much through a type of media. I think artists show so much symbolism to represent what their artwork means. I think art is a way of showing elements and expressing themselves in a way most people may or may not understand. Art is everywhere and a lot of people don't realize that art affects everyday life. It shows up in so many different places, in so many different forms. Art is truly incredible.
3.) In the beginning of the semester, I chose Damien Hirst as favorite artist at the time. I loved his color and I think he had a very interesting taste in artwork. Now finishing up with this class, I honestly can say I don't have a favorite artist. There are so many good artists out there that I enjoy now. I've seen so many different pieces that I have fallen in love with. Each artist has their own style and I like so many now. I still love Damien, but I think it is too hard to choose a favorite now.
4.) I think taking this class made it easier to take an online class. I still think it depends on what class it is but I think this class was very reasonable and I liked that you did not have to be on the computer everyday for this class. I think I will still be nervous to take an online class especially because I am a bad test taker but I definitely feel a lot better about it than I did in the beginning of the semester. This teacher was very helpful with an problems I had during this online process.

Self portrait Week 15
Vincent Van Gough self portrait 1889 438.2 x 571.5 cm painting. This particular picture gave me inspiration mainly because he is such an amazing artist in my eyes. I love his technique because the painting is so different. The different colors of the brush strokes is amazing. This inspires me to try something different with my artwork. (National gallery of Art, Washington D.C)

Self Portrait with Death Playing the Fiddle painting ( Arnold Bocklin) 1872 National Museum in Berlin 600X743
I chose this as my second inspirational piece for my self portrait because It is so detailed in the self portrait. I think it symbolizes more than we can interpret ourselves. The fact that there is death behind him must mean something based on what he is feeling. I think the detail in his own face is so incredible and must have been very hard to do especially when it is his own face.

Gerhard Richter self Portrait "The Desperate Man" 1843-1845 Oil painting.
This piece inspired me because of the incredible detail in the artwork. I think the look on his face says it all with the title. I think my self portrait should look like this because a lot of the time that I the expression on my face. It looks as if he took a photograph of himself. It would be nice to be able to be as talented as this artist but for now he is a great inspiration.

2.) I chose pencil and charcoal for my self portrait because for me it is the easiest to work with and easy for my to fix my mistakes. I am not the greatest artist so this was the easiest media to use. I also used a little bit of colored pencil for a different look and to add a bit of color. I also love colored pencil to make the artwork pop a little.
3.)The greatest challenge was the small detail because actually seeing myself is a lot different than how I imagine myself. Sometimes it is hard to recognize myself, so actually drawing a self portrait is extremely hard. I am not good with human features such as eyes, nose, and mouth. To overcome this I had to redo a few details over and over, but I kept my photograph right next to me to help over come this issue.
4) My picture of myself represents me because I don't like to smile. I honestly don't know why, I just never really do. I like to hide behind my glasses because I am a shy girl. I think this picture represents me and I happened to capture the perfect picture of myself as a person, and created into artwork.
5.) In this artwork I used balance. Not only in the type of media, colored pencils and pencil, but also balance to make sure everything was even. I used proportion when it came to making sure my features were proportion to my whole face. I don't want to give myself a huge nose that I actually don't have! I also used a bit of color. Natural color to make it more realistic.
6.) I did enjoy this project because it gave me a sense of my own features and my own self portrait. It was different and difficult to draw myself but I enjoyed it and had a good time working on it. I am not the best artist but this helped me help myself improve on my artwork.
7.) I think my final work is okay for me. I worked hard on it and it may not be as good as I hoped, but for the long amount of time and effort I put into this, I think it turned out alright. I think sitting down and throwing some music on and drawing makes the time go by quickly and before I knew it I got so into the drawing and was finished. I think it was a satisfying project.

video review. Week 13 and 14
1.) The key concepts in the first video lowdown of lowbrow is mainly the idea of the word lowbrow. lowbrow was basically pop culture with people using nudity and provocative artwork. A lot of artists don't know if they are considered lowbrow or highbrow. A lot of the lowbrow artist had a different type of humor. Over the past years, artists who never got recognized are now famous around the world and more popular for their lowbrow work.
In the second video, BBC culture show, Tate Modern, is a modern look on everything. It was contemporary art that so many people went to visit on opening day, even the queen. It was a very successful exhibit. Even after 10 years the museum is still so incredibly crowded but a lot of the workers are concerned about the lack of seriousness with many people visiting. They don't look into the artwork as serious as they should, and it is more of a social gathering for most. Even thought they want people to take what the want and see from this museum.
In the last video the key concept is that a museum is never fully finished. There is constantly things being changed. The Metropolitan museum of art is considered to be the encyclopedia museum. Different Curators took the time to explain different artworks and pieces to people in different exhibits. They allowed people to ask them questions and explain the role of their jobs and being in the museum. They show the job of treating a lot of the artwork in the museum.
2.) I think the last video helped the most because it helped explain more of what a curator does and different exhibits they do, and themes, and how their role is important in the museum. The second video also help because seeing the process of the exhibits and the museum opening up gave me an idea of how to process my own exhibit for my project. The first video did not seem to help too much just because it seemed to be a little too much off topic.
3.) I think when I first read about what our project was going to be on I was a little confused on what to expect. After watching these videos it gave me a better idea of what it mean to be a curator and the different exhibits in museums and how they are created and how the curator is so important to have.

Reflection Journal
Project 4 was an interesting project. I like having projects that involve power point. Gives me a chance to be a little creative. For my theme I chose landscape. I think nature and the earth is an amazing thing and the artwork people create based off of the landscape is amazing. After choosing a theme I did a lot of searching based off of famous artist who were famous for their landscape. This would make it easier for me to create my slides. After picking all my artists I found a piece of artwork for each and wrote about it. Using a powerpoint gave me the opportunity to look at nature and things I love, and have a little fun with the effects on powerpoint. Overall it was a fun project and I wouldn't mind doing it again.
