Color Wheel, and Value Scale
I think doing the Color Wheel and the Value Scale were both pretty fun. I love paint and anytime I get to use it I do. I honestly, am not the best at art out there but I do enjoy it. For the Color wheel I did have to mix the colors a few different times because they did not turn out exactly how I wanted them to. They still are not the perfect mixtures I wanted but I think they are pretty close. With the Value scale I did happen to notice my third last box was a little darker than it should have been and I did try and fix that. I think these both were fun activities though.
I enjoyed working with the acrylic paints the best. I love to paint and seeing how mixing colors can change to a completely different color.
I think the most important discovery would have to be that Red, Blue, and Yellow are not truly primary colors. Magenta, yellow, and cyan are the true primary colors and they form black when mixed all together.
I think the most important thing on the videos was learning about the primary and secondary colors. We learned so differently in elementary school and it is useful learning about how it has changed over the years.

Color Theory and Emotional Effects
1.) Color is the reflection of light off objects and things, that we can see with the human eye. Many objects tend to absorb that light also. Color and emotion go hand in hand. Just like in the first video, the artist June was known for using emotion with her paintings and colors. When she went to Venice and came home and panted that area of where she was inspired, she tended to have many mixed emotions. She changed her color a lot through the process. She didn't like some of the reds, so she went darker but got angry and changed the colors again. In the end she was finally becoming happy with it and her colors were becoming just right.
2.) I think June's theoretical aspect of correlation between color and emotion is my favorite. She knows her emotions effect the colors of her artwork. I think it was interesting watching her get frustrated and how that truly changed her whole painting for weeks!
3.) The Color video was a lot more interesting to me than the second one. The thing that impacted me the most was watching June's painting transform over time because of her emotions. At some points she would go look at it far away, get mad about it, and come throw turpentine at it and basically create a whole knew look for the painting. She blamed a lot of it on the lighting difference from in her home from where she was in Venice. Either way, seeing her emotions be such a big part and impact on color really interested me.
4.) In this video, it amazes me on how much work was put into a lot of these paintings. The emotions really affected the colors and artwork. Artist David had such passion for his statues he created. He worked so long and hard on them because he was so passionate about it. Goya really showed a lot of his passionate emotion in a lot of his paintings. Just so much detail and hard work put into them. Goya had some paintings that went dark. He had a illness and after always painting with colors, and happiness, he went to dark and depressing and that really showed in his artwork.

Project #1

I actually had a lot of fun with this project. I am not the best photographer but I do own a camera that I love. Each picture represents my interpretation of what I see as the elements and principals of art. It was a kind of hard to get the right idea of every element and principal but reading what the textbook had to say was a lot of help. I think the least one I liked was probably balance. I think it should have been an easy one to understand but I couldn't get the right idea. I ended up taking a picture down a trail with trees balancing out both sides, but each side is still different. I liked doing emphasis the best. It actually is honestly an older picture I once took but I thought it would be perfect for emphasis. Your eyes go directly past the lake and right to that lighting bolt. I really enjoyed doing this project.

Module TWO
1.) While watching the videos and reading the article, I learned a few key concepts. One thing is that in the video "Philosophy of Arts" every artist has their own version of aesthetics. Everyone has their own opinion on other artists and what they consider what is art, or what is good and bad art. A lot was about the beauty of different arts. For example one artist in this video described artwork as a completed process not open for future innovations. Aesthetics is usually based on what the beholder thinks and how they see artwork.
In the CNN video it had two different speakers showing presentations on there theory of art and how they see it. Changeux and Ramachandran are the two speakers. At some points it was hard to understand but Changeux started off with some art history and definitions. He began to compare the brain and artwork. When it comes to Ramachandran he was a little more interesting to me. He was funny but he talked about how science and art connect and how the brain is the connecting point. A lot of what he said made a lot of sense and puts another outlook for me about art and the brain. I like that he considers "art" just visual aesthetics.
In the article it basically explains what are human eye is seeing and how we see certain things. The article states that a lot of what we are seeing is a lie. It didn't make much sense at first but as I continued reading a lot was explained and started to really click. Artists tended to "trick" the brain in many of their artworks.
2.) One philosopher on aesthetics that I think was most important was in the 6th century Athens, Plato. He said in some way, all things have beauty. I think all of the philosophers are important but just a lot of things he says got my attention and made a lot of sense to me. He didn't trust poets because he thought they couldn't actually know the things they were writing about.
3.) I think Changeux and Ramachandran's scientific views are very interesting. The way they compare art with the brain is a concept I have never thought about but they both did a great job at explaining it. In the beginning he mentioned a fact that I was interested in hearing, is that it takes the brain 15 years to fully develop. Not so much about art but they did compare art with the human brain during the presentations. I think both their presentations were well put.
4.) The videos and the article both have a lot of the same ideas. They both point out that aesthetics has a lot to do with the beauty of the art and everyone see's it in a different way. The brain is it's own work of art and helps us see the different beauty in different artwork.
5.) A lot of the times it is hard to read a textbook and get a certain idea across. Watching these videos and reading an interesting article like these really helped me learn better. They obviously were not the most interesting to watch or read but I did get a lot from all of them.

Honestly, trying to start this blog should have been the easiest process to do but my laptop would not allow me to do it using my google from web page. I soon realized it and switched to internet explorer and here I am quickly blogging! I expect to learn a lot from this online course. I think I will learn a lot of history about art. How they used certain materials. I think going to art museums will be vey interesting and I will soon learn a lot. I also think learning through an online course will give me more responsibility so lets hope it all goes well!! I think the online part is kind of intimidating but I know what to expect and I just need to keep up with it everyday and I should be fine.
