Class review extra credit.

1.) I was a little worried about taking an art class online, but it turned out to be a lot better than I expected. I loved that we got opportunities to do so much. Between museum visits, my own artwork, and videos about different artists, and different media, and art through out the years. I expected to learn about the different art media, and elements that it takes to create a piece of artwork. I expected to learn how to interpret different medias and what they truly meant when the artist was creating them. I think a lot of my expectations were met, and I am very happy with the way this online course turned out.
2.) In the beginning of the semester I didn't quite know a lot about art and what it meant. I wasn't too involved in art other than what I've learned throughout the years in high school. I believe art is a great way to express so much through a type of media. I think artists show so much symbolism to represent what their artwork means. I think art is a way of showing elements and expressing themselves in a way most people may or may not understand. Art is everywhere and a lot of people don't realize that art affects everyday life. It shows up in so many different places, in so many different  forms. Art is truly incredible.
3.) In the beginning of the semester, I chose Damien Hirst as favorite artist at the time. I loved his color and I think he had a very interesting taste in artwork. Now finishing up with this class, I honestly can say I don't have a favorite artist. There are so many good artists out there that I enjoy now. I've seen so many different pieces that I have fallen in love with. Each artist has their own style and I like so many now. I still love Damien, but I think it is too hard to choose a favorite now.

4.) I think taking this class made it easier to take an online class. I still think it depends on what class it is but I think this class was very reasonable and I liked that you did not have to be on the computer everyday for this class. I think I will still be nervous to take an online class especially because I am a bad test taker but I definitely feel a lot better about it than I did in the beginning of the semester. This teacher was very helpful with an problems I had during this online process.

Self portrait Week 15

Vincent Van Gough self portrait 1889 438.2 x 571.5 cm painting. This particular picture gave me inspiration mainly because he is such an amazing artist in my eyes. I love his technique because the painting is so different. The different colors of the brush strokes is amazing. This inspires me to try something different with my artwork. (National gallery of Art, Washington D.C)

Self Portrait with Death Playing the Fiddle painting ( Arnold Bocklin) 1872 National Museum in Berlin 600X743
I chose this as my second inspirational piece for my self portrait because It is so detailed in the self portrait. I think it symbolizes more than we can interpret ourselves. The fact that there is death behind him must mean something based on what he is feeling. I think the detail in his own face is so incredible and must have been very hard to do especially when it is his own face.

Gerhard Richter self Portrait "The Desperate Man" 1843-1845 Oil painting.
This piece inspired me because of the incredible detail in the artwork. I think the look on his face says it all with the title. I think my self portrait should look like this because a lot of the time that I the expression on my face. It looks as if he took a photograph of himself. It would be nice to be able to be as talented as this artist but for now he is a great inspiration.

2.) I chose pencil and charcoal for my self portrait because for me it is the easiest to work with and easy for my to fix my mistakes. I am not the greatest artist so this was the easiest media to use. I also used a little bit of colored pencil for a different look and to add a bit of color. I also love colored pencil to make the artwork pop a little.

3.)The greatest challenge was the small detail because actually seeing myself is a lot different than how I imagine myself. Sometimes it is hard to recognize myself, so actually drawing a self portrait is extremely hard. I am not good with human features such as eyes, nose, and mouth. To overcome this I had to redo a few details over and over, but I kept my photograph right next to me to help over come this issue.

4) My picture of myself represents me because I don't like to smile. I honestly don't know why, I just never really do. I like to hide behind my glasses because I am a shy girl. I think this picture represents me and I happened to capture the perfect picture of myself as a person, and created into artwork.

5.) In this artwork I used balance. Not only in the type of media, colored pencils and pencil, but also balance to make sure everything was even. I used proportion when it came to making sure my features were proportion to my whole face. I don't want to give myself a huge nose that I actually don't have! I also used a bit of color. Natural color to make it more realistic.

6.) I did enjoy this project because it gave me a sense of my own features and my own self portrait. It was different and difficult to draw myself but I enjoyed it and had a good time working on it. I am not the best artist but this helped me help myself improve on my artwork.

7.) I think my final work is okay for me. I worked hard on it and it may not be as good as I hoped, but for the long amount of time and effort I put into this, I think it turned out alright. I think sitting down and throwing some music on and drawing makes the time go by quickly and before I knew it I got so into the drawing and was finished. I think it was a satisfying project.

video review. Week 13 and 14

1.) The key concepts in the first video lowdown of lowbrow is mainly the idea of the word lowbrow. lowbrow was basically pop culture with people using nudity and provocative artwork. A lot of artists don't know if they are considered lowbrow or highbrow. A lot of the lowbrow artist had a different type of humor. Over the past years, artists who never got recognized are now famous around the world and more popular for their lowbrow work.
In the second video, BBC culture show, Tate Modern, is a modern look on everything. It was contemporary art that so many people went to visit on opening day, even the queen. It was a very successful exhibit. Even after 10 years the museum is still so incredibly crowded but a lot of the workers are concerned about the lack of seriousness with many people visiting. They don't look into the artwork as serious as they should, and it is more of a social gathering for most. Even thought they want people to take what the want and see from this museum.
In the last video the key concept is that a museum is never fully finished. There is constantly things being changed. The Metropolitan museum of art is considered to be the encyclopedia museum. Different Curators took the time to explain different artworks and pieces to people in different exhibits. They allowed people to ask them questions and explain the role of their jobs and being in the museum. They show the job of treating a lot of the artwork in the museum.
2.) I think the last video helped the most because it helped explain more of what a curator does and different exhibits they do, and themes, and how their role is important in the museum. The second video also help because seeing the process of the exhibits and the museum opening up gave me an idea of how to process my own exhibit for my project. The first video did not seem to help too much just because it seemed to be a little too much off topic.
3.) I think when I first read about what our project was going to be on I was a little confused on what to expect. After watching these videos it gave me a better idea of what it mean to be a curator and the different exhibits in museums and how they are created and how the curator is so important to have.

Reflection Journal

Project 4 was an interesting project. I like having projects that involve power point. Gives me a chance to be a little creative. For my theme I chose landscape. I think nature and the earth is an amazing thing and the artwork people create based off of the landscape is amazing. After choosing a theme I did a lot of searching based off of famous artist who were famous for their landscape. This would make it easier for me to create my slides. After picking all my artists I found a piece of artwork for each and wrote about it. Using a powerpoint gave me the opportunity to look at nature and things I love, and have a little fun with the effects on powerpoint. Overall it was a fun project and I wouldn't mind doing it again.

Module 12 video review

I chose the video Andy Warhol: Images of an Image, because I recognized his name on the title. I have hear a lot about him so I figured why not learn more about him. He always seemed to be very interesting. I also chose Hockney on Photography. I chose this video because photography really fascinates me so I decided this video would most likely interest me the most out of all of them. I have a big interest in photography.

There are many key concepts in both of these videos. In the first one I watched, Andy Warhol it is mostly based on his work of art. He liked to collect magazines and photos of famous people especially Marilyn Monroe, and Elizabeth Taylor. He had a big interest in silk screen imagery which became very famous and he created many with these famous actresses. Many of his images repeat many times, and sometimes even overlap and have different colors. In this video we also learn how silk screen is created, which is a very interesting process. He has a repetition of his photos to actually create a sort of dizziness. Warhol also used polaroid images as his starter image. He sometimes would add paint to his portraits. He became very well known in his middle ages. Death was a major theme for Andy. Car accidents, suicides, Plane crashes, and even worked on Liz when he thought she was dying.
In the second video there are also a lot of key concepts learned. It talks a lot about whether or not photography is an art or not. Hockney has a way of making his photography look like a collage or painting. He doesn't care whether people believe his photography is art or not. He started off as using a polaroid camera. He calls his collaged photography, "drawing with a camera". He continues to show and describe each of his photography artworks. He describes how with his photography it is as if you are closer to the image because each picture is just a portion of the image and created into one big image.
In both the book and the videos, Andy Warhol's way of creating a silk screen is described. His artwork is shown and is explained on why it is so well known and interesting. Also photography is also talked about and Hockneys way of creating one big photograph with smaller puzzle like photographs. It is interesting to read and watch these videos
I thought these videos were interesting because I have heard of Andy Warhol before, and I also love photography. I honestly learned a new way to create images from these videos and readings. I actually want to try what Hockney did with his photography. It is a great way of capturing and image and making is seem like it is so up close and big.

Museum visit 2

While visiting this time at the museum, there was a lot going on their. They were moving a lot of the exhibits around and I happen to be a day early to a very interesting exhibit I saw the workers putting together. Only the upstairs was open at the time, but I did happen to see this exhibit which was called Looking at Tomorrow. This exhibit had a lot to do with different life adventures and day by day artwork from some of the artists.

In this space the lighting was more bright than the rest of the museum that I experienced. The walls were all very bright too with mostly white paint. A lot of the work I saw was paints and photography. There was also colored pencils and even just random objects involved. As I walked the museum, there was a lot of space. Honestly not much to look at and a lot of room to move around. I think the day I went was a very bad day to experience but with my work schedule and school it was very hard for me to even go when I did. Either way, there was still a lot of interesting pieces to look at. It was wide open and I felt very little walking around.
There were a few different artists in this are. Each had their own room which was really interesting and cool to me. I liked moving from room to room to see how similar and different the rooms were. Some artists had their art actually on the wall. Not in frames but straight on the wall. Some artists were different though and had picture frames of their art on the walls. The lighting really helped while looking through some of the photography. Each work of art has a an information sign next to it and I read a lot that had interesting stories, with the artists reasoning on the artwork and the title and date of the created artwork. It is good to know the facts that is put on those signs.

This artwork was used with red black and yellow pencil. He is well known for his lines in his work of art. There is definitely line in this specific artwork. I think this artwork would take a long time and patience. It is right on the wall at the museum and uses color and balance too. It's hard to interpret what this means or what the idea was, but I think the artist wanted more with it. I think originally he wanted to continue and create something else but finished it with satisfaction before doing so.  I think coloring in the squares would be interesting to do with this artwork.
This artwork was interesting to me. It looks like a very young child did this artwork. I think it is showing the tree falling and collapsing into a different image. There were a few artworks like this. Each drawing is the tree falling more and more and the blue one seems to look like the tree turned into a bird. The green really stands out against the white. It shows emphasis.

This artwork was most interesting to me. It showed each day that the artist traveled on the mountainous rage in Scotland. I wish it was in color to see the actual landscape better but it was interesting reading and looking at. These pictures showed the mountain everyday. Different views of each day. I think it looks like a hard mountain to climb especially with the snow involved. There was great value in these pictures.

For this project I really enjoyed going back to the museum. I wish I could have seen an actual exhibit that they seemed to be setting up for. I think I came on a bad day. I did not get to see or experience much while I was there. From what I did see, it was interesting. Even seeing some things they were setting up were cool. I think seeing this exhibit in person and experiencing the space it is in was interesting. Walking into these separate rooms with different artists was my favorite part. The theme of looking at things Day by Day was so relevant to me. I loved that the artists in this was showing day by day artwork and the difference one day can make.

Module 11 Video review

The two videos I chose were the Mystical North, and The Impact of Cubism. I chose the first one because I think learning about Spanish Art would be interesting. From the past to the present. Different Art around the world is so fascinating. I've always had an interest in Spain so I thought this would interest me the most. I chose the second video because the idea of Cubism got my attention. I wanted to learn more about it. I don't know very much about Cubism. Seeing the different artwork involving cubism is very different to me so I thought this video would catch my attention.

In the first video, the Mystical North: Spanish art from the 19th century to the present, had a few key concepts. It introduced some Spanish Artists like Picasso, Goya, and Dali. Ideas of each of their artwork and their lives in Northern Spain. A lot of there lives they knew war, and fighting so a lot of their artwork had a lot to do with tragedy and war. After Goya's terrible death, artwork became boring and uninteresting for over 50 years. The artist Gaudi, was the next big artist but he was a lot different than Goya. His artwork brought light to Barcelona. It was happy and based a lot of artwork on catholic religion. Gaudi's architectural work was actually amazing, and was so inspiring during the 20th century. Picasso was also a great artist in the 20th century. He was very involved in cubism. He too based a lot of artwork on catholic religion, and a lot of the cubism faces was based on African masks. Dali had a way of being comedic with his art and surrealism. His artwork definitely gets my attention the most. It is so much more different than anyone else's. A lot of war sights in Northern Spain are kind of considered artwork.
The second video The Impact of Cubism also has a lot of key concepts. Picasso was a very famous cubism artist. This video shows the different concepts of different artwork. Including the famous "coffee table". There are different colors and values, and different things our eyes tend to see and what different things each mean. Some things mean exactly what they are but others have different meanings and it is explained in this video. Different artists used real life objects as their main artwork. Like the painting with the Eiffle Tower, was based on the artists memory and imagination but had so much going on that it was kind of hard to tell it was the Eiffel Tower that he was completely focusing on. In this video there was a lot of artwork that I could not really imagine what it was until it was explained. Cubism is a hard but interesting artwork to follow and understand.

Both the text from the book and the videos relate in many ways. They both explain the understandings of cubism and different artists who used it in artwork. Also talked about the Spanish artists and artwork over time and how it was changed.
In my opinion I don't really like the cubism, but it is still interesting. I think the Spanish artwork is very interesting and I like learning about that a lot. The different artists have such different ways of creating great artwork.

Module 10 video

I chose African Art because it was the most simple one. It was just one topic of African art in general. I thought it would probably have the most variety of art in the video. I also chose Chinese art, because I thought it would also be interesting and different to watch.
In the first video, African art it mostly talks about the different art work back in history from the ancient African works. Different places and regions in Africa have different works of art and different architectural artwork created. They have different meanings to each and every piece of art made. A lot of the artwork was carved from the landform. Most African art was conceptual artwork, which was mostly from the imagination and not so much realistic. A lot of their artwork had certain tradition and ritual meanings to them. Design elements also had different meaning to each artwork.
In the second video, Chinese Art, Hokosai, creates his artwork according to travels through out Asia. Different landforms were shown as they traveled. Artwork was created of patterns of humans. The artwork the "wave" was a very influential piece of work. Many artists used it and the technique in their own artwork. The cool part was watching the different printings of "The Wave". It was interesting watching the steps of each print work and the different colors.
The videos and the text relate because they both talk about the different traditions in African art and the different sculptures and artwork used to describe different things. They used masks, and tree carvings, and buildings for different traditions. Also shows the different affects on the printing work. Also the different steps of the great wave. Shows how it was created and how it was planned so well on the paper.
I think these videos were interesting. It is weird to think such small detail can mean so many different things in different cultures. How artwork takes so much time for certain things. I think the hardest thing to understand was how African art can mean so many different things. How a sculpture is carved or the way it is facing can mean something. There traditions through art is amazing. The Chinese artwork took so much planning and time into each step. It is incredible the way the finished product is made.

Module 10 Mask

These are the 3 images I chose for this project. I chose these because I think they are very interesting. I liked the colors of them and the different shape of each. They each have their own pattern and the fact that they each have a unique to them.
In the first one It is very detailed. Their looks to be design at the top to maybe represent feathers. The actual face is very detailed and has many dots. It looks like it would be used for a happy event. The color of this mask is what stands out to me, and the details of it.
The second mask also has great detail. It has less color than the other inspirations I chose but it still shows the African history behind it. This mask seems to be more traditional than the others. Maybe for a more serious gathering or event. This mask has emphasis to me because I am automatically drawn to the forehead and the design on the top. It has a little more detail than the rest of the mask.
The last mask uses a lot of color. There is symmetry also on this mask. Very detailed, and by the look of it, it looks like there might be some noticeable texture on this mask. The colors seem to be happy cheerful colors.
In my finished mask, I wanted to try and use some sort of symmetry, and of course color because I always love using some sort of color. As I made my sketches and reached the final product I wasn't satisfied with it. Not only am I not a very good artist but I was enjoying creating something different. So, I decided it needed more 3-D, and also texture. I cut it out and threw it on a ruler for a more realistic look. I also added some jewels that I happened to have. It gave it a little more texture and more of a 3-D look to it. I enjoyed looking through the African Masks for ideas and I enjoyed creating this project. I wish I could actually draw and create the images I have in my head, but practice makes perfect right? I think my mask is funny looking but honestly, I just am a funny kind of person so I think it is a perfect fit. I did have a fun time creating it.

Exploring Line Module 9

1.) It was actually kind of different using my own hands as a subject matter for this project. I am not the best at drawing so when I do draw I need to look at the subject every second while drawing it. It was hard using my hands while trying to look at them in detail while drawing them.
2.) I used pencil for this project. The reason why I used pencil was because I erase a lot while drawing and for me it is easier to use pencil. I do however tend to like the look of charcoal better.
3.) Creating this project with my non dominant hand was extremely hard. I am not used to trying to draw with my left hand. I do not do well with it and you can certainly see the difference. It was hard to get used to and I honestly will probably never get used to drawing with my non dominant hand.
4.) I think my project was successful. I think it shows the difference between my dominant and non dominant hand and how hard it was for me to draw with my left hand.
6.) I don't think I would consider creating an artwork with my non dominant hand. I did not like the feel of it and I don't think it turned out well either. Maybe with a little more practice in the future I can make it a lot easier for me to use my non dominant hands and create some artwork.

Model 9 Video Review

1.) I chose the Drawings of Michelangelo because I think he was an amazing artist. I think it is interesting getting to know more about him and his artwork.
I also chose Albrecht Durer: Image of a Master, mainly for the last part. "Image of a Master caught my attention and I wanted to know more about what it particularly meant by Master.
2.)For the first video the key concepts were mainly what Michelangelo's points were in creating his artwork drawings, and sculptures. Many of these being of naked men. Michelangelo used the human body, and the "twisted body" to express so much artistic expression. He had a whole design laid out for his Dome he was creating. Which was such an amazing inspiration. They even used an actual human to try and reenact one of his Adam and God painting. The way the form of the body was in the drawing was impossible for the human man to actually create is perfectly. A lot of this video was showing the process of how the artwork was created on the ceiling of Michelangelo's Dome. It is incredible work and created with such detailed work.
The second video Image of a Master it was talking about the artist Albrecht Durer and his life as an artist. He had a interest in showing works of art involving aging. He also tends to paint himself, in a way of finding out who he really is. Usually with serious faces. After traveling to Italy, he ended up having the beautiful landscape of the Alps in the back of his paintings. He ended up becoming well known for his landscape and was one of the first Landscape artists in Europe.
3.) Both videos relate to the reading, by explaining the different artists artwork, and drawings. The history and accomplishments through the years of the artists. How the paintings and drawings were inspirational at that time in history.
4.) I think these films give me more of an idea of what it was like creating artwork back then. Gave me some idea of how they got their inspiration and how they were created. Also about their life and how different it was being an artist back then. Also, how to this day there are still artwork around the world from these artists.

Module 8

1.) The video I chose from the selections was Cairo Museum. I chose this because just by the title it seemed to be the most interesting sounding to me and I enjoy museums so I figured it would be something I would be interested in.
2.) The key concept of the first video More Human than Human, was that even though all statues of the human body are very different, almost all of them have a similarity of having a very unrealistic view of that the actual human body looked like. It shows the old Nomatic version of human artwork is more realistic than modern time. The Greece sculptures that were found in the sand under water. Greeks were very particular with the way the body looks. If your bodies looked good, you were good and very more of a god. Their goal was to create statues worthy of their temples.

In the second video "Cairo Museum" the key concepts were about the Egyptian museums basement and the Egyptian human statues they have stored down there. Only half of their artifacts are on display, and the other half is all underneath put away. They want to create a new display to show these long lost artifacts that were forgotten about. They have so many different choices. Many have never been out on display for over the 100 years they were there. They made it like a temple.

3.) These videos relate to the text because they both give us a sense of different ways cultures saw the human body. Some sculptures looked nothing like a human but some cultures made it well known of what the sculpture was. Different cultures used them for temples and for recognizing Kings and queens. They had a big influence on the people of different cultures and time periods

4.) In my opinion I think the videos were interesting. I enjoy the Museum video. I think the artifacts are amazing and they really took the time to make the new part of the museum just like a temple. In the first video I think it was very true that a lot of human sculptures are different but a lot of them are so unrealistic and nothing like a real human.

Module 7 Videos

I watched the videos Architecture: The Science of Design, and Frank Gehry: Architecture as Art.

1.)For the first video the main concept was the technology and design of the architecture. It talked about the "smart houses" and how much it can do for one human. The house, can wake up a person, have everything turned on and ready to go in the morning, or coming home after a long day. It is incredible how far architecture and technology has come. It also talked a lot about the process of building safe skyscrapers.
In the second video, they mainly talk about Frank Gehry's architecture and his creations over time. The different artwork involved in architecture, and all of his creations. His architecture was never really thought to be the architecture of the future. But as the years went on, he still created architecture that was used through years and years. He even has a museum and it looks incredible. I actually would go visit his masterpiece one day if I could.

2.) In both videos and reading the text, the both described the art of the architecture. It also both talked about the creation and the technology used to create these buildings. There is a lot of work put into these architectures and each one needs to be created in different, safe ways.

3.) With both of these videos I learned a lot. I learned a lot of where Gehry got his ideas from, and how he created such architecture. He was an inspiration to many and even with his own home, he was incredible. The first video I watched I learned how different architectures and even bridges were built to withstand certain weather problems, and weight too. I think learning about the smart house and what it is capable of was probably the most interesting part of both of the videos. I also think how in the Frank Gehry video, he says that things and artistic creations can change over the years. It's kind of like a trend. It changes every so often.

4.) I chose the two that I chose because I'm a science nerd and the title got my attention "The Science of Design." It was an interesting video too. The second video I chose because I was having a little trouble connection to the other videos so I decided to watch this one. It was still interesting to watch but I don't know if it would have been the one I would have chosen.

Througt the Eyes of the Sculptor/ Glass and Ceramics Module 6

There are many different key concepts in these videos. Starting with the Glass and Ceramics video, it is so interesting seeing how both are made. I think the making of the glass is so amazing how it works. Watching and seeing the different techniques and different glass and ceramics. Glass is used for so many things including architecture and is so detailed in the making. Glass can even save money. In the video it talks about how some buildings are made with double glass to block out sound.
In the sculpture video, there is such a long process to make and finish these sculptures. So much time, patience, and effort. There are so many details the artist needs to work with. It's just interesting to watch a creation actually come to life after so many trials and patience.

The text, and the sculpting video both talk about the process of the carving. Both talk about bringing art into sculpture form and the time and steps it takes to get it.
The Glass video and the text relate because they both mention how and what they are both made of.

I think the videos gave me a better understanding of the process of glass and ceramic making, and also sculpting. Sculpting takes so much time and has a long process of many different versions of art. Glass and ceramics have a very distinct process and are both time consuming and can create many different things using these materials. These types of arts take a lot longer and depth than I originally thought

Peer Blog Postings

http://sheriwrites.blogspot.com
http://robinsonamberd.blogspot.com

2.) I honestly think out of all the project #1 I have looked through, I think Sheri captured the best images based on the definitions of these elements. I saw a lot of what she was thinking for each element and principal. I think emphasis was my favorite just because of the red bench popping out against the white house.
I also think Amber did a really great job too! I agreed with each one she did for elements and principals. The only one I had trouble understanding was the movement one, but I think it is like the hussel and movement of the city which in that case is actually really smart and thinking even deeper than I had thought about these! Either way it was interesting going through these picture.

3.) When it comes to mine and Sheriwrites blog posting, we didn't have many similar artworks posted but we did have one. They both were a piece that we connected with but in different ways and meanings. She explained it in a different way than I did and honestly I kind of liked her explanation of it better than my own! We seem to be somewhat similar people and I started thinking of our similar artwork "The Struggle" in a different way.
Amber and I did not have similar artworks for this project but I was interested in what she was thinking for most of the pieces. She has a lot of questions for the artists and I have a lot of similar questions I would ask them too.
4.) George Wesley Bellow's Ellinor, Jean , and Anna was one artwork from Sheri's blog that I would like to know more about, it kind of got my attention. She said she wanted to know why the little girl was so upset, and that is exactly why I want to know more about this too. It interests me a lot.
From Amber's I would like to more about the Volumptuosity sculpture. Like Amber said, it is different for someone to create a sculpture of such a large man or woman. Usually it is more of a petite man or woman. I would like to know more about this sculpture. Is this sculpture of the man or woman learning to embrace themselves and gain confidence. I want to know the story behind it too!
5.) I actually enjoyed this peer evaluation. I looked through a lot of blogs, and they people that did do the projects did a very good job, and got me thinking about a lot of the artwork and photos. I think it is a great way to learn about other peoples thoughts and how they interpret different artwork, and how they even create their own from principles and elements. It was a really great learning experience.
6.) Their were not too many comments on mine, but actually they people who did comment on mine made me happy. They liked the work I did and we had a lot in common with our projects. It's nice to hear other peoples opinion on your work.

LOGO

1.)Creating this logo really got my creative side going. I wasn't really sure what to do. I wanted to really incorporate myself into it. I enjoyed being able to do something creative and pick what I wanted to do for it.

2.)I am a chemistry major who is going into dietary and nutrition in the future and I live a life of health and wellness. I created a chemistry beaker and a dumbbell together into one. I first thought it might be too much for a logo but it was what I really wanted to do. It was fun creating it too.

3.) The most important discovery for me was not to overthink or over do the logo. It's got to be about me and I really think I captured that I my work.

4.) From watching the videos and reading the articles I learned that there are many steps to creating a logo. In the video it took a design team many times to get the correct idea for the company. They wanted it perfect and it was such a simple logo. They were 5 red circles, but they had to be perfect and the logo ended up meaning so much that I wouldn't even think about. I liked watching the video, and it really helped me capture ideas for my own.

Here are some small ideas I started off with for my logo, and also my finished project.

ART GALLERY VISIT

1.) These two first images are the two artworks that really made an impact on me. They are by Adolph Gottlieb (Dialogue 1, 1960) and n the right it is (George Went Swimming at Barnes Hole, but It Got Too Cold, 1957) by Joan Mitchell. The Black white and red one impacts me because it is so simple but could mean so much to the artist. It reminds me of graffiti from the streets in a way. The artwork on the right impacts me mainly because the title is so interesting for this artwork. Artists have such unique names for their work of arts. It impacts me also because the way it all came together.

2.) The to artworks that I noticed I connection to the most was (The Struggle, 1957) by Robert Goodnough, and (Barking Irons) which I am not positive of the artist. The struggle connects with me because of the look and title of it. It is so unique and the artwork looks like a struggle. It is a jumbled mess with colors and separated black lines separating the different colors. It kind of reminds me of my struggle in life. I have all my struggles which seem to mesh into one big struggle. Also the second artwork also looks like a mess but more of a happy mess. The artist has a way with his art to keep it cheery and I love the bright colors and it reminds me of my good days, Kind of still a mess but a happy mess. If I could I would have this artwork in my home.

3.) The next two artists are (Round Trip 1957) by Helen Frankenthaler and (Peinture no. 0528, 1915)by Alberto Magnelli and I would really like to explore and learn more about these artists. I think the Round Trip painting is amazing. It could have so many different meanings to it and I truly don't know what it truly means. I would love to know what she was thinking when creating his work of art. Same with the next artwork. It's simple but was the artist inspired by the colors and the shapes and even the sections of each different colors. I would love to research more into it and really find out what was going on in both of these artists heads as they drew these.

Color Wheel, and Value Scale

I think doing the Color Wheel and the Value Scale were both pretty fun. I love paint and anytime I get to use it I do. I honestly, am not the best at art out there but I do enjoy it. For the Color wheel I did have to mix the colors a few different times because they did not turn out exactly how I wanted them to. They still are not the perfect mixtures I wanted but I think they are pretty close. With the Value scale I did happen to notice my third last box was a little darker than it should have been and I did try and fix that. I think these both were fun activities though.

I enjoyed working with the acrylic paints the best. I love to paint and seeing how mixing colors can change to a completely different color.

I think the most important discovery would have to be that Red, Blue, and Yellow are not truly primary colors. Magenta, yellow, and cyan are the true primary colors and they form black when mixed all together.

I think the most important thing on the videos was learning about the primary and secondary colors. We learned so differently in elementary school and it is useful learning about how it has changed over the years.

Color Theory and Emotional Effects

1.) Color is the reflection of light off objects and things, that we can see with the human eye. Many objects tend to absorb that light also. Color and emotion go hand in hand. Just like in the first video, the artist June was known for using emotion with her paintings and colors. When she went to Venice and came home and panted that area of where she was inspired, she tended to have many mixed emotions. She changed her color a lot through the process. She didn't like some of the reds, so she went darker but got angry and changed the colors again. In the end she was finally becoming happy with it and her colors were becoming just right.

2.) I think June's theoretical aspect of correlation between color and emotion is my favorite. She knows her emotions effect the colors of her artwork. I think it was interesting watching her get frustrated and how that truly changed her whole painting for weeks!

3.) The Color video was a lot more interesting to me than the second one. The thing that impacted me the most was watching June's painting transform over time because of her emotions. At some points she would go look at it far away, get mad about it, and come throw turpentine at it and basically create a whole knew look for the painting. She blamed a lot of it on the lighting difference from in her home from where she was in Venice. Either way, seeing her emotions be such a big part and impact on color really interested me.

4.) In this video, it amazes me on how much work was put into a lot of these paintings. The emotions really affected the colors and artwork. Artist David had such passion for his statues he created. He worked so long and hard on them because he was so passionate about it. Goya really showed a lot of his passionate emotion in a lot of his paintings. Just so much detail and hard work put into them. Goya had some paintings that went dark. He had a illness and after always painting with colors, and happiness, he went to dark and depressing and that really showed in his artwork.

I actually had a lot of fun with this project. I am not the best photographer but I do own a camera that I love. Each picture represents my interpretation of what I see as the elements and principals of art. It was a kind of hard to get the right idea of every element and principal but reading what the textbook had to say was a lot of help. I think the least one I liked was probably balance. I think it should have been an easy one to understand but I couldn't get the right idea. I ended up taking a picture down a trail with trees balancing out both sides, but each side is still different. I liked doing emphasis the best. It actually is honestly an older picture I once took but I thought it would be perfect for emphasis. Your eyes go directly past the lake and right to that lighting bolt. I really enjoyed doing this project.

Module TWO

1.) While watching the videos and reading the article, I learned a few key concepts. One thing is that in the video "Philosophy of Arts" every artist has their own version of aesthetics. Everyone has their own opinion on other artists and what they consider what is art, or what is good and bad art. A lot was about the beauty of different arts. For example one artist in this video described artwork as a completed process not open for future innovations. Aesthetics is usually based on what the beholder thinks and how they see artwork.
In the CNN video it had two different speakers showing presentations on there theory of art and how they see it. Changeux and Ramachandran are the two speakers. At some points it was hard to understand but Changeux started off with some art history and definitions. He began to compare the brain and artwork. When it comes to Ramachandran he was a little more interesting to me. He was funny but he talked about how science and art connect and how the brain is the connecting point. A lot of what he said made a lot of sense and puts another outlook for me about art and the brain. I like that he considers "art" just visual aesthetics.
In the article it basically explains what are human eye is seeing and how we see certain things. The article states that a lot of what we are seeing is a lie. It didn't make much sense at first but as I continued reading a lot was explained and started to really click. Artists tended to "trick" the brain in many of their artworks.

2.) One philosopher on aesthetics that I think was most important was in the 6th century Athens, Plato. He said in some way, all things have beauty. I think all of the philosophers are important but just a lot of things he says got my attention and made a lot of sense to me. He didn't trust poets because he thought they couldn't actually know the things they were writing about.

3.) I think Changeux and Ramachandran's scientific views are very interesting. The way they compare art with the brain is a concept I have never thought about but they both did a great job at explaining it. In the beginning he mentioned a fact that I was interested in hearing, is that it takes the brain 15 years to fully develop. Not so much about art but  they did compare art with the human brain during the presentations. I think both their presentations were well put.

4.) The videos and the article both have a lot of the same ideas. They both point out that aesthetics has a lot to do with the beauty of the art and everyone see's it in a different way. The brain is it's own work of art and helps us see the different beauty in different artwork.

5.) A lot of the times it is hard to read a textbook and get a certain idea across. Watching these videos and reading an interesting article like these really helped me learn better. They obviously were not the most interesting to watch or read but I did get a lot from all of them.

Honestly, trying to start this blog should have been the easiest process to do but my laptop would not allow me to do it using my google from web page. I soon realized it and switched to internet explorer and here I am quickly blogging! I expect to learn a lot from this online course. I think I will learn a lot of history about art. How they used certain materials. I think going to art museums will be vey interesting and I will soon learn a lot. I also think learning through an online course will give me more responsibility so lets hope it all goes well!! I think the online part is kind of intimidating but I know what to expect and I just need to keep up with it everyday and I should be fine.
